1) Who are you, who is in the band, who does what in the studio and on stage?
My name is Kirsten Adamson. I write the songs, play guitar and keys. Other members of the KA band are Paul Gilbody on bass and backing vocals, Phil Hopwood on lead guitar and Ru on drums and sample pads.
2) How long have you been writing and performing in this way?
I have been writing for around 10 years now but only performing in the guise for the past 3 months!
3) How exactly do you work / write / record?
Just started recording with an awesome producer called Guy Perchard. It has been a solo affair to get the bones of the tracks down but the rest of the band will be involved very soon for the over dub stage.
4) How do you feel your studio/recording style informs the way you perform your music live? Does it make it easier or harder, better etc…?
I don’t know how my studio style affects the live performance yet. I imagine we will need a lot more samples and possibly another synth player once the album is ready 🙂
5) What’s been happening lately and what’s new with you?
I got a new kitten recently – he’s possible the cutest but naughtiest kitten ever. This little critter has taken up most of my free time recently. Other than retrieving said cat from the curtains I have started my latest recordings, been writing new material and also playing with another band called the 1004’s. They are awesome, check em out!
6) When was the last time you played Edinburgh (and where)? What do you remember about that experience?
Last time we played Edinburgh was at the end of jan in Citrus Club. I remember I had a massive headache.
7) If you’ve played Limbo before, what did you like/rate about the experience? Â If you’ve not played Limbo before, what have you heard about it?
I played limbo on Burns night 2013. I remember it being a brilliant night! Great fun – we did a Burns cover you can check out on YouTube too. Â The gillyflowers – Brose and butter
8) What’s next, coming up after this gig, for you and what are you generally looking forward to right now…?
Next for me is making the best possible record I can. That is all. Oh and I’m learning French.
9) How do you feel about Scottish independence and the whole ‘Yes’ campaign? Have you decided which way you’re voting yet (and, if so, what’s your decision)?
I think I’ll probably vote yes out of curiosity…..maybe. It’s so tough what with all the bullshit figures, scaremongering and what not flying around the media.
10) What do you think about a struggling artist becoming the face of an advertising campaign for a bank, as Rachel Sermanni did recently for RBS?
I say “good on her”! Artists have to make a living any way they can these days. With such a saturated market if you can sustain a living making music you’re part of a minority so, well done.
