Boasting roots in The Borders and the Isle of Skye, The Last September are an Edinburgh-based indie-rock band combining Americana and folk undertones, who actually also remind us a wee bit of classic REM. They released their eagerly-anticipated third album, Volcano, in October, commissioning BAFTA-winning artist Anslie Henderson (also a musician of no mean talent himself) to make a video for lead single This Train Remains. Henderson’s genius stop-motion animation video has now had 87k hits on Vimeo and, needless to say, it’s garnered the band a raft of new fans! Volcano drew praise from various respected quarters, including The Sun, Scottish Fiction and Supajam.
Support comes from the equally ace Saint Max and The Fanatics, who we’ve also been trying to nail down for a gig for quite some time after they wowed us at an ace Wide Days gig. They released their wicked first album about a year ago and have been very busy of late doing high profile support slots for the likes of Sleaford Mods, King Tuff (Sub Pop), among other gigs. These guys will definitely get the place going with their energetic Two Tone vibes.
And opening proceedings will be The Son(s), who we’ve been trying to get on at Limbo for years (literally!). Singer-songwriter Karl recently got a new band together to showcase his work, which blends folk and psychedelia in a truly ingenious manner, winning him more than 9k fans the world over via his Soundcloud. Having just released a new album (which made it into the Sunday Herald’s 2014 Top 50, no less, among other great plaudits and is utterly essential listening), via the ace Olive Grove Records, The Son(s) are finally back on the live circuit and we can’t wait to see what they do. (Also an older song, called Slow & Easy, was remixed by Leonidas & Hobbes and came out via the latter’s Hobbes Music label last summer – you can download the original version for free via Bandcamp). Don’t be late!
As usual, the black Spring DJs join the dots between and after the bands, keeping the party going into the wee small hours.
Ltd Edition Early Bird tickets are only £3 so don’t hang around if you’re feeling the new year pinch!
