Ten Questions for Saint Max and the Fanatics

Saint Max and the Fanatics

1) Who are you, who is in the band, who does what in the studio and on stage?

Saint Max and the Fanatics, consisting of Saint Max on lead vocals and guitar plus Muir Steele on bass, Ruaraidh MacLeod on drums, Fraser Gibson on trombone and Eliot Waterhouse on trumpet.

2) How long have you been writing and performing in this way?

2 years.

3) How exactly do you work / write / record?

Saint Max writes the songs, teaches them to the band, if they sound good we record them at Green Door studios in Glasgow.

4) How do you feel your studio/recording style informs the way you perform your music live (or vice versa)?  Does it make it easier or harder, better etc…?

Our songs were polished in the studio but we dont treat the recordings as a definitive version. So live and studio can often diverge.

5) What’s been happening lately and what’s new with you?

We were recently cited by Limmy as his favourite new Scottish band. We hope he wasn’t taking the piss. Recently, we’ve played with the likes of Sleaford Mods, which was amazing. Our debut album has been out for a year now, you can find it on bandcamp.

6) When was the last time you played Edinburgh (and where)?

We played at Sneaky Pete’s and filled it. It was a very sweaty, special gig.

7) If you’ve played Limbo before, what did you like/rate about the experience?  If you’ve not played Limbo before, what have you heard about it?

We’ve heard it’s about as far from musical purgatory as you can get.

8) What’s next, coming up after this gig, for you and what are you generally looking forward to right now…?

We’re writing a musical to be performed in the distant future. Still a work in progress.

9) If you have any other passions/opinions you’d like to share, if there’s anything else you feel strongly about, pls feel free to tell us about it here…

Cardiacs are the best band in the entire world, listen to Sing to God.

10) What’s the worst lie you ever told?

I once told an ex girlfriend I believed in God, because she was a Christian. I didn’t, and don’t.
