Pumajaw
Following the runaway success of their critically lauded Fringe show, Song Noir, Pumajaw return to headline Limbo’s Christmas bash with a reprisal of the show (with the music being released as an album in February ’14), plus a selection of favourites from their last album, Demonmeowmeow.
And it’s a v busy time for them as John’s previous band, Loop, were recently asked to curate this year’s last ever UK ATP festival and are now doing a reunion tour around the date. More info about all that here.
Support comes from a veritable cast of stars, each in their own right. First is LAW, aka Lauren Holt, who, although only appearing on the Edinburgh scene some six months ago (when she made her live debut at The Voodoo Rooms supporting close friends and collaborators Young Fathers at a benefit for Unite Against Fascism, no less), has been making waves far beyond it this year, with 11.5k YouTube views, 4k Souncloud plays and counting…
Second is Fridge Master, who came to Limbo’s attention more recently, via a video he sent us for a song called Sigh No More. This got our attention immediately and reminded us a bit of The Beta Band, among others… He keeps sending us really unusual, original stuff and recently uploaded another intriguing video for a song called House Of Pride. Suffice to say, he’s got an AV show in store for Limbo and we’re very much looking forward to it…
And first on stage on the night, on this rare four-band bill, will be another newcomer, Amanti, who makes the trip all the way from Aberdeen with his new band especially for Limbo. Again a recent discovery, Amanti sounds a bit like Withered Hand jamming with a drum machine and some sequencers instead of his regular band: he’s equally at home strumming his guitar as synthesising sound on a laptop and a hugely talented singer-songwriter to boot.
The Black Spring DJs will be joining the dots between the bands and keeping the party going afterwards, as usual. As you may already have guessed, this night will be another special one. Hope you can make it.
