Limbo is stoked to bits to be welcoming back the immensely talented Mr JONNIE COMMON. Jonnie’s been playing gigs for us in one form or another since the heady days of 2008 and always manages to bring a smile to our faces and get people enthusiastically tapping their toes and nodding their heads to his infectious tunes, mixing folk with electronica in his highly accessible, whimsical way.
He released a new album last year via our friends at respected independent Edinburgh blog-label Song, by Toad and finally began garnering the kind of praise from further afield of which he’s been do deserving for all these years, with Jonnie recording a session for Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music) and Ms Laverne playing the ace new material to bits. If you’ve never seen Jonnie before, you’re in for a treat and, since his recent gigs have all been packed, we’re expecting a very warm reception for him at Limbo.
First support comes from A-LIX, a French-Argentine duo who have also been playing Limbo since 2008, providing the main support for Micachu with us at Limbo’s 1st Birthday. [Did you make that one? It was a great night, we’ve got some great photos somewhere….] They also had a song on our Limbo Live Volume 1 CD (still available if you know where to look, or who to ask – nudge, wink…). However, they took off for sunnier climes some time ago. A-lix mix electronica with guitars in an energetic, fun way that always gets Limbo going and they’re flying all the way over from Spain to do a mini-Scottish tour, so it would have been downright churlish not to have welcomed them back and we’re very much looking forward to seeing/hearing their latest.
And first on stage will be CALLUM EASTER, another incredibly talented individual, with an equal abundance of charisma. Callum last played Limbo as Fridge Master, supporting the ace LAW and blowing us all away with his awe-inspiring AV show and weirdly wonderful songs about his ‘House of Pride’ and the ‘Honey Money Bee’. Well, that was well over a year ago now and Callum’s been busy writing a whole new bunch of songs and getting a new band together. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for Limbo… Don’t be late!
As usual, the Black Spring DJs will be warming the room up, joining the dots between the bands and then keeping the party going afterwards.
TICKETS: There are a few Early Bird tickets available for £4. After that they’ll be £6 and then £8 on the door so don’t hang around if you want to save cash!
