1) Who are you, who is in the band, who does what in the studio and on stage?
I’m Graeme (Vox, Guitar and some keys). We also have Michael (Guitar and looks), Andrew (Drums and looks), Kevin (Bass and looks).
2) How long have you been writing and performing in this way?
Book Group have been providing a slacker rock soundtrack to Edinburgh for the last two and a bit years. Kevin has recently joined the band to bring more height.
3) How exactly do you work / write / record?
I bring the tunes and melody and the rest add the punch!
4) How do you feel your studio/recording style informs the way you perform your music live?
We really love playing live so most songs are actually written with that in mind. Sometimes portraying that on our recordings can be tricky but we have been lucky to have worked with some great producers. We are currently finishing off the writing of our debut album which is making us think a bit more about what we put into it. I think people will be surprised – in a nice way!
5) What’s been happening lately and what’s new with you?
‘Tantrums’ is our latest release – a four track EP woven with angry pop and the odd bit of fuzz. We have had a hoot promoting it with our own DIY launch in Edinburgh and gigs in Glasgow, London & Dundee. Fulfilled a wee ambition of playing the Queen’s Hall in August too. As mentioned in the previous questions, the album is on the way.
6) When was the last time you played Edinburgh (and where)? What do you remember about that experience?
Queen’s Hall in August. Absolutely loved it and managed to get a quick ‘Victory Lap’ around the top balcony. Also our first gig with Kevin which was fab.
7) If you’ve played Limbo before, what did you like/rate about the experience? If you’ve not played Limbo before, what have you heard about it?
Played Limbo with ‘We Are The Physics’ a while back. Loved it – great venue, great sound and great dancing after! Pretty sure Brendan (of Teenage Fanclub fame) did the sound or did I dream that?
[It’s true, Brendan has done the sound for Limbo many times and, unsurprisingly, we really rate him as a sound engineer]
8) What’s next, coming up after this gig, for you and what are you generally looking forward to right now…?
Album will be out late next year. In the short term we are doing a couple of gigs before the end of the year – details being finalised!
9) How do you feel about Scottish independence now that it’s the final week?
Think Michael would have loved to have answered this. He had a cracking message on FB last week. He is a passionate YES but speaks with sense about the reasons why. Not sure what Kevin and Andrew are thinking but I am totally worried about what is going to happen after Thursday. I’ve seen some pretty horrible scenes over the last week and hope that we don’t end up a country torn in two. I don’t say how I’ll vote by the way!
10) If you have any other passions/opinions you’d like to share, if there’s anything else you feel strongly about, pls feel free to tell us about it here…?
I’m quite liking wind turbines at the moment! That’s all. 😉
