Progeny of Scottish punk/rock royalty Stuart Adamson (The Skids, Big Country), Kirsten Adamson and her excellent country & western tinged troupe, THE GILLYFLOWERS, have a loyal and swelling local following which they’re sure to expand upon even further as they release debut album Queen Of Hearts and tour the land. And they’ll be marking the occasion at this first Limbo of 2013.
”The Gillyflowers have a growing following, and have in Kirsten Adamson a Dolly Partonesque country singer of poise and mighty ability” (David Pollock, The Scotsman)
”With Adamson’s voice and acoustic guitar lent harmonic weight by two similarly apparelled female back-up singers, several examples of wild-flower discreetly adorn the stage. Both lend a showbiz dash to an already tight-knit and well-turned-out combo” (Neil Cooper, The Herald)
“See them while you can still see the whites of their eyes. If your heart doesn’t melt, ask your doctor for a transplant” (Ed Jupp, 17 Seconds Records/Blog)
First support comes from Edinburgh-based folk-blues band KING EIDER, a talented five-piece who create a modern acoustic sound using traditional musicianship. From the loud to the soft, the haunting to the upbeat, the harmonic strength of this band lies in their unique mix of three-part harmonies, acoustic guitar, bass, drums and classical strings. Their sound encompasses certain aspects of Ben Howard’s melodic soulfulness, the drive of Mumford and Sons, and always shows a flair for the foot-stomping fun reminiscent of Arcade Fire.
Second support is from up-and-coming troubadour HAILEY BEAVIS, who has been wooing everyone in her path, as she conquers Edinburgh’s thriving live music circuit.
The Black Spring DJs will be joining the dots before, between and after the bands as usual.
