ARTIST’S BIO (excerpt):
Multi-talented, Glasgow based troubadour-cum-noisemaker Will Hanson releases his follow up to the amazing debut, Hope On Top. Second album, Moving A Body was recorded at Chemikal Underground’s Studio in Glasgow with funding from Creative Scotland and is released August 22nd by 12/26 Music.
LABEL PR:
Moving A Body came about following a move from his native London, via New York to Glasgow, following the breakup of his previous band, Proxy (Island Records). After collaborations with producers Jamie Savage (Chemikal Underground) and Oli Bayston (Keith, Howls), Will realized his solo work was actually much bigger and suddenly found himself fronting a 6-piece band complete with string section. Will’s sound draws from the cinematic expanse of acts like Mogwai and Portishead to an intimacy informed by Lambchop and Mazzy Star. Although Will is heavily influenced by instrumental music ranging from Arvo Part to King Tubby to Slint, he is very much a ‘song man’ in the most traditional sense.
PRESS:
‘…but that serves as little forewarning of just how good an arrival Moving A Body – which comes fully-formed as if out of nowhere – turns out to be. Think a little of Mogwai’s approach to spine-tingling guitar melodies and punishing volume, combined with some of The Delgados skill for an off-kilter pop song and a swooning orchestral swell, all thoughtfully distilled. Notwithstanding a title that may have the police chapping on his door, it’s an album that oozes good taste and good judgement’ (4/5 – The List)
‘Dark, brooding… and a pleasure to listen to’ (Artrocker)
‘Deceptively dark, sharp-tongued… There’s hints of Frightened Rabbit song-writing, Idlewild riffing, and the spaciousness of Mogwai. But the most distinctive influence… is The Delgados… Think clever lyrics and tasty piano bashing, jangly guitar and a knack for penning tracks that start small, but build’ (ListenBeforeYouBuy)
