Two long years in the making The Tide Inside have finally arrived.
Front man Mark Donnelly has been making music under various guises for many years. He has spent the past two years crafting his self-titled album (due for release in summer 2012) and preparing for a return to the live scene.
The Tide Inside is an honest and uncompromising album, born out of frustration, beauty and the sadness of things. Influences, that range from the delay soaked abstraction of John Martyn and the idiosyncratic confessionals of The The to the sound clashes of Cabaret Voltaire, the intimacy of Radiohead and the meat on the bone of Queens of the Stone Age, have shaped a unique and compelling record. Listening to the album The Tide Inside will take you on a journey with the songwriter that embraces broken dreams and the rough edges of life.
The stripped down live sound of The Tide Inside removes the studio overdubs, reinventing the songs and reducing them to the bare bones. With Mark Donnelly’s soulful and emotive voice as the main instrument, backed by Adam Bond Thomson on drums and William Acton on bass, the result is a swaying, feral sound that swoons from ambient discord to stoner panic to some of the simplest chord changes imaginable.
On June 8th, The Tide Inside will open the final ‘Limbo’ event of 2012 before the club breaks for summer. The event, held monthly at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, will also be the simultaneous release date of the band’s debut single – ‘On My Way Back Down’ – which will subsequently be featured on the album later this summer. Keep your eyes peeled for the accompanying video, coming soon.
The Tide Inside: the album, is an honest and uncompromising piece of craftsmanship. Driven by a creative force that demands something positive be born out of the desperate, this is an album that celebrates the beauty of life. The Tide Inside’s simple approach to their live experience hold emotions at the core and create strong foundations for a band that can move in any direction, whilst always keeping the attention of their audience. After a long process of personal discovery and musical experimentation, this astonishing work is finished and it is time to let it be heard.
