Official Biog
My name is Ste McCabe. I am a one-man band.
I use a distorted guitar, drum machines and a synth to make noises with. I am a politicised queer, feminist, working class bastard and I like to make people dance with my rantings. I have been playing live since summer 2006 and I have performed everywhere from the Royal Festival Hall to queer squat parties. I mostly play in the UK (where I am based), but I can often be found further across Europe also. Playing live is what matters to me so I do it as much as I can.
I have a new limited edition download single out on Bubblegum Records. I have 2 albums and an EP out on Cherryade Records. I host a radio show on Dandelion Radio – the internet station inspired by John Peel. I play lots of queer and female music, but not exclusively. I’m having a little break at the moment but I will be back soon!
I put on band nights in Edinburgh called Pussy Whipped, which support queer and female alternative artists. The project is funded by Awards For All Scotland and I have a lot of help from the Ladyfest Manchester collective.
Here’s some things people have said about me:
‘Ste McCabe is a queer-feminist-punk-poet for the people’ (Time Out, London)
‘Manchester’s queen of queer punk’ (Manchester Evening News)
‘Murder Music, McCabe’s diatribe against injustice and parochialism, is the most barbed political song in years, and the best punk rock statement since those pigeons shat copiously on Kings of Leon’ (Artrocker Magazine)
‘Ste is authentic and brilliant’ (Boy George)
